Emily grew up in the Wallingford area, only relocating for a short while to
Wales to gain a degree in Fine Art Sculpture. She has
built on her passion over the past years, creating her own unique style
in pottery and now, having created The Potter's Wheel in the heart of Wallingford, she hopes to share her passion for pottery as well as to support and work with local artists to bring a
buzzing creative hub to the town.
Emily's clay journey started while creating her body of work for her final degree show at Swansea Metropolitan University. She was looking for a material that had endless limits in creating and holding tactile forms and patterns. After discovering clay towards the end of her degree, on returning home she signed up to a variety of pottery courses which only fuelled her addiction towards this sticky mud. Emily was soon spending every spare minute in a spidery summer house honing her skills and beginning to create her small business.
A few years down the line, having now taken over the whole summer house and driving her parents crazy with clay debris left around the house, she moved into Ayres House Studios in Wallingford. There, with the extra studio space, she was able to take on small batch commissions for local coffee shops and restaurants, as well as to start selling at local markets and art fairs such as Handmade in Britain.
Emily has also worked on TV sets as a pottery advisor, as well as
creating a variety of bespoke sculptures for filming.
More will be
revealed on that in due course!
If you pop by The Potter's Wheel, the chances are you may see Emily busily
working away at her pottery wheel
or glazing a new batch of pots ready
to fire in the kilns. Do step in and say "Hello!".
She looks forward to seeing you!
Please note that EmilyJane Ceramics does not offer an external firing service.
In addition to The Potter's Wheel retail outlet, a selection of EmilyJane ceramics are available for online purchase at ETSY:
